LearningWeb 2.0

A learning network organized around live questions, useful relationships, shared practice, and evidence of what people can do together.

Premise / 01

Learning begins when a question finds company.

Most learning platforms begin with a catalogue: institutions publish courses, learners select one, and progress is measured by consumption. Learning Web 2.0 begins elsewhere—with a question someone cannot pursue alone. Its name revisits Ivan Illich’s idea of learning webs for a networked, AI-mediated age.

The prototype asks how a network could help that question attract the right objects, skills, peers, mentors, places, and practical tasks. AI helps with orientation, while learning remains relational and grounded in work that leaves evidence.

Relational core / 02

The Learning Thread

The basic unit is neither a course nor a profile. It is a living inquiry that gathers relationships and changes as the learner acts.

Example thread / active inquiry

Why are traditional villages disappearing?

为什么传统村落正在消失?

01

Question

A specific inquiry worth pursuing, not a course category.

02

Objects

Books, places, archives, people, tools, and cases gathered around it.

03

Skills

What the learner must learn to observe, make, compare, or explain.

04

People

Peers, mentors, witnesses, and local practitioners who can participate.

05

AI navigator

A guide for mapping resources, sequencing work, and exposing gaps.

06

Practice

Tasks performed in the world rather than answers consumed on a screen.

07

Evidence

Artifacts, observations, signatures, and feedback that demonstrate learning.

08

Reflection

A record of changed understanding, unresolved questions, and next steps.

Learning relations / 03

No single center of instruction

01Learner

Frames and owns the inquiry.

02Peer

Practices alongside and compares evidence.

03Mentor

Offers judgment, method, and productive constraint.

04Practitioner

Brings situated knowledge from the field.

05AI navigator

Maps possibilities and reveals missing links.

Seven connected spaces

These are working product areas, not finished features. Each exists to support a thread rather than compete for attention as a separate feed.

01

Home

Active threads, invitations, evidence awaiting review, and the next concrete action.

02

Learning Map

Questions and people arranged by relationship rather than a fixed subject hierarchy.

03

Discover

Find a thread, object, skill, place, or collaborator that can move an inquiry forward.

04

People

Profiles organized around what someone can teach, learn, verify, or practice with others.

05

Practice

Field tasks, studio exercises, interviews, observations, and shared making.

06

Schools

Libraries, workshops, museums, communities, and informal places treated as learning nodes.

07

Evidence Passport

A portable record of work, feedback, verification, reflection, and contribution.

Evidence passport / 05

A record of practice, not attendance.

Evidence Passport collects the traces of learning without pretending that a single score can explain them. Each record remains connected to its thread, context, people, and uncertainty.

  1. 01Attempt

    What did you actually try?

  2. 02Artifact

What trace did the work leave?

  3. 03Witness

    Who observed or reviewed it?

  4. 04Reflection

    What changed in your understanding?

  5. 05Contribution

How can another learner use it?

Design principles / 06

Five reversals

01

Question before curriculum

Begin with an inquiry that belongs to the learner; assemble structure only when the work requires it.

02

Relationship before recommendation

A useful connection explains why this person, place, or object matters to this thread.

03

Practice before completion

Progress means observing, making, testing, interviewing, or teaching—not merely finishing content.

04

Evidence before credential

Keep the artifact, witness, feedback, and reflection visible before compressing learning into a badge.

05

AI as navigator

Let AI orient and scaffold the journey without replacing peers, mentors, local knowledge, or firsthand experience.

Working proposition / 07

Become each other’sschool.

彼此成为学校。

The project is currently a conceptual and interface prototype. Its next test is whether one real Learning Thread can help a small group move from shared curiosity to situated practice and checkable evidence.
